BAKE OFF GUIDE

General Information

The top three winners in each category are eligible to go to the District Bake-off, which is typically held in March. If the top three finishers are unable to attend, the fourth place finisher may go as a replacement.

Categories:

  • Cakes

  • Cookies (bar and drop)

  • Pies

  • Breads

  • Artistic/Creative – More weight is given to scout themes

FYI: Cheesecake is considered a pie. Brownies are considered cookies. Banana bread is considered a bread, not a cake. Muffins are considered a cake. This is just so there will be no confusion on registration night and to keep things consistent.

And last…. HAVE FUN!

Rules

Rules (based on District rules so that winning teams will qualify at the District level as well):

  1. Each Scout and adult team member may enter in one category.

  2. As this is a Bake–off, all entries must be baked at some point during the preparation.

  3. Entries must be baked from scratch. No use of a mix (even if other ingredients are added) is allowed. No use of a pre-made pie crust in the pie category either. The use of a mix or store bought pie crust will disqualify the entry.

  4. We will need the name of the a.) team members, b.) the Den number, c.) a copy of the recipe, d.) and a written statement that the kitchen and all utensils used in preparation were cleaned by the team on a piece of paper or card that does not exceed 5” x 8”.

Any serving utensils, forks, plates or knives needed for serving the entry should be provided by the team. Please remember to put your name on things if you want them back!

Registration

When you arrive at the Bake-off, please check-in at the registration desk, then take your entry to the table labeled for your category.

Registration for our Bake-off will begin at 6:30pm. Please arrive in enough time to get your entry registered and be seated before 7:00pm. Entries will be judged during the Pack Meeting, and winners will be announced at the end. Everyone will get to sample the entries at the end of the evening!

Jugdging

The Bake-off committee will judge all entries. Judging will be based on, in order of importance:

    1. Compliance with all rules! We have had excellent tasting entries in the past that have not followed the rules (see #3 & #4 above) and did not win because of this issue.

    2. Taste

    3. Texture

    4. Appearance

** Artistic/Creative entries will be judged on appearance and creativity only and will not be tasted.
